Humanity has been expelled from mother Earth and retreated to the moon. Yoko Taro helms this smash hit that takes place thousands of years in the future. You might want to have some tissues prepared for this one. N:A brings a load of emotions and existentialism right into the faces of the audience that avoids the topic the most: gamers. You take the role of 2B, a female android warrior sent on missions by YoRHa.
Your objective is to take back the Earth from the machines and give it back to humanity. The construction of the narrative is fairly unconventional. The idea is to drill into the heart of the player and, in essence, turn their view towards themselves. There are several areas to travel through. An old city presents a lot of history, overgrown by vegetation to show its age.
Each area is detailed and layered with character. Complete graphical overhaul. Reworked movement and combat: Grimoires Weiss and Noir now follow the player around in the overworld instead of only appearing when using magic.
Also added is a small feature where the player may interact with Weiss in a similar fashion with the Pods from NieR:Automata. Weapons and magic may now be used seamlessly, without interruption, and even in mid-air. With the exception of Dark Blast, the player would come to a complete halt when using and charging magic prior to ver.
Soft and hard lock-on features now available. Removes manual aiming for the Dark Lance in particular; Dark Blast, on the other hand, retains its crosshair. Weapon quick-switching added; lets the player tap or hold the assigned weapon slots on the D-pad.
NieR: Automata. Deflecting enemy attacks the instant they land lets the player perform a strong counterattack. Adds a sprint feature which triggers after jogging for a few seconds, complete with visual cues.
Can be toggled on and off from the main menu. Sidestepping adjusted; lets the player dash behind enemies in an instant. Wall Skipping has been removed. The animations, skills and combat is still incredibly fun and fast paced. Plus, in terms of visuals, they may not be what you call next gen ready but they are at least on par with Automata and the scenes are still spectacular to witness.
We reckon that Nier: Replicant will be a very strong title, just not for the casual player. We feel that this game was made for a particular group of players in mind and for that reason, it may be difficult for new players to invest fully in this adventure.
That being said, this game will still have brilliant combat, a compelling story for those that can follow it, set pieces that will blow the player away and a visual offering that is at least on par with its predecessor.
In short, this game is fan service at its finest, it just might not appeal to the masses quite like Automata managed to do. Back in , Cavia brought to us another new and exciting gaming world. A game that offered one of the most unique and stylish hacks and slash adventures that the genre had ever seen. A feat that undoubtedly deserves acclaim. However, as the years have progressed, the power of hindsight has allowed us to see the kinks in the original game's armour, showing its flaws.
So with that in mind, Cavia have decided to remaster this iconic title, bringing the visuals and gameplay up to the standard of modern gaming in a hope of rekindling the fanbases love for this title.
They aimed to do this through a remaster titled, Nier: Replicant. This title aims to offer fanfare in abundance and drag the original NIER into the modern age of gaming. However, is this a good decision, or should this relic have been left in the past?
